The New York Rangers haven’t exactly been consistent this postseason, so trading blows with the New Jersey Devils wouldn’t necessarily be alarming. But after losing two games in a row, the Rangers have their backs against the wall, facing a real chance of elimination Friday night. They have given the Devils their best punches but trail 3-2 after a gut-punching loss in Game 5. New Jersey jumped ahead early in that game, knocking in three goals on Vezina Trophy finalist Henrik Lundvqist, and New York never seemed to fully recover. Continue reading

At long last, the New Jersey-New York border was has returned the NHL Playoffs. It’s been 18 years since the New Jersey Devils and New York Rangers faced off in the Eastern Conference Finals when Stephane Matthau scored the winner against Martin Brodeur in Game 7 to send the Rangers to the finals.
While we wait for the Rangers/Capitals series to wrap up, it’s about time we start turning our attention to the western conference, where the outcome of the finals will provide a great storyline regardless. Either the Los Angeles Kings will complete an amazing run after squeaking into the playoffs as an eight seed, or the Phoenix Coyotes will win their first conference final in franchise history in a season that already saw them win their first division and finally get a buyer. 
How much things can change in a hurry.
