2012 NHL Western Conference Betting Odds For April 13, 2012

The Philadelphia Flyers led the league in comeback victories during the regular season, so I guess it wasn’t all that surprising when they stormed back against the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game One of the Eastern Conference playoffs.

That doesn’t make it any easier to swallow for the Penguins, favored in Bovada’s NHL Betting Futures to win the conference championship. A year after bowing out of the playoffs in the first round, Pittsburgh once again couldn’t figure things out.

They try to even the season series against their in-state Friday night.

Bovada favors the Penguins to rebound with a -210 money line and a six-goal total.

Pittsburgh was actually picked to win the Stanley Cup, but are now tied with the New York Rangers with 5/1 odds.

“I think we’ve got to play that desperate hockey when it’s 0-0 when the puck drops,” forward Scott Hartnell told the Associated Press. “You can’t win too many of these games. We’ve been getting lucky.”

It has lost to the Flyers three times in the last month, but seemed to have things figured out in the series opener.

Sidney Crosby scored a goal to help race out to a 3-0 lead in the first period. But Philadelphia chipped away at the lead and won 4-3 in overtime. It did it by killing three power plays in the final two periods, paving way for Jakub Voracek’s game-winner in the extra period. That made the Flyers an astounding 6-1 in the Consol Energy Center.

“I think that’s something we expected of them,” Pittsburgh goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury told the AP. “They always come back. They always find a way to come back into games.”

Pittsburgh’s big problem was in the third period where they only managed five shots. After Crosby’s early goal (and assist later), he and Evengi Malkin were blanked the rest of the game.
